10k

Finally!  44 minutes for my 10k.  I am beginning to place a little better in the women rankings but still have a long way to go.  The Husky Dash was very fun, cold and wet, but fun.  I managed to get myself bundled up with the 5k and nearly took a wrong turning but managed to get back on track.  Of course, then I wanted to puke cause of the extra effort, lol.  I place 3rd in age and 9th woman overall.  I was actually 87th finisher, not so many men beating me anymore, that feels better than anything!

I have the Monroe 5k this Saturday.  I won the woman overall last year.  Its a bit scary to enter a race and everyone knows you won it last year, they are all ready to whip my buttocks, but I still got some drive... lets see what I can do.

Managed to set up our Sunday trainings to begin in December, that will be 2 months earlier than last year!  I am so ready!

This weekends activity

Husky Stadium 10k!  It is a bit of a challenge to go from one distance to another and recognize if you are pushing yourself enough or too much.  Gregor is going to do a 5k while I do my 10k, thankfully Marcy is coming down to wait at the finish line for him.  It feels so good to have a child that may develop the passion you have for something, without too much pushing.... ;)  I was planning on running this morning but the sky is black!  I am not ready for the treadmill so I will cycle instead.....

I finally received some swim coaching yesterday, seems like I am a dead weight in the water, that would explain my panic attacks as I cant propulse forward efficiently, its like Im fighting.  So, I shall practise my new skills this winter in preparation for summer!  Fingers crossed.

So, if you are running on Sunday, see you there, have a blast, look around and enjoy the energy from like minded crazies on a Sunday morning!

Im back

First day back at work was brilliant but by the time I got home I was wrecked.  I arrived home late on Monday and had to get into the Y to teach Yoga at 6am.  No-one came to the class!  So, after I accepted the fact that I was up now I got over it and enjoyed catching up with my work.  Taught my morning classes easy enough but my legs are certainly feeling the usage!  My 5k race on Saturday went so great.  I placed the 2nd woman finisher in 20 min 52 sec, breaking my pr of 21.01.  It has taken me 2 years to get under 21 mins.  So, finally all my hard work has paid off.  I have another 5k coming up so my goal would be just to break 21 min again cause it could have been a fluke!  I also have a 10 coming up and am training to beat 43 minutes....  PUKE!  If anyone is interested in the 10k it is on October 24th at Husky Stadium, kids can run the 5k for free!  You cant beat that.  The 5k is on October 30th at Monroe YMCA, I was the fastest woman last year so have a lot of pressure, lol.  Its a real fun race and totally flat....  come join me followers, thats what follow means right?

Ok, time to get organized!

Day 4ish?

4am, Friday morning....  Getting ready to catch flight to Vegas.  I have managed to find a 5k race on Saturday morning, that will prevent me from playing too hard on Friday night, or willl it...  I have not been training for 5ks this year as I had increased my distance to 10ks and up.  So, I went running on Wednesday night and I was ill.  I mean I couldnt remember what speed to to so I was up and down the whole time.  I couldnt get my groove on at all, and the speed was killing me.  So, my goal of breaking 21 minutes may be a few months away, its still there but Im not ready to do that this weekend.  I will do my best to be under 21.10, yeah, I can do that!

ps, my legs still hurt from the sprints on Tuesday.  Note:  if you want to feel your hamstrings do sprints!  Absolutely amazing!

See you all on Tuesday, wish me luck for the run and of course the penny slots!

Day 3

I managed to head to the soccer field yesterday and do some sprint training.  Let me just say, I was a sprinter!  Now, I am not so sure.  I wanted to puke the whole time, couldnt catch my breath, Ryan, Maurice and Kendall (who by the way cant sprint) all whipped my butt!  Ok, I must say I was giving Ryan a run for his money by the 6th sprint.  What was so excellent about the training was we were done in 30 minutes, and we couldnt have done another lap.  I will let you know how my legs feel today but they were like jelly, so shaky. The intention is to train this way at least every Tuesday.  I am very excited to do it again, cant be worse than the first time right?

No training today, although as I sit here staring out the window it is consuming me.  I want to go for a run but the reality is it is still dark and if I wait then I wont be back in time to organize the kids!  I have to work till 7pm tonight so there is my day.  Who knows I could jump up and get out there and do a 5k before anyone notices...... but doubtful, again I will let you know!

I have a 5k in Las Vegas this Saturday, Im really excited cause I will be all alone (well probably surrounded by thousands) and no stress of beating anyone except myself.  My internal goal is breaking 21 minutes (I am currently at 21.01 but havent done that this year yet) phew, I feel sick just thinking about it!  lol.

Day 2

I am totally thrilled today!  I was trying to get home to Scotland for the last 2 weeks and missed my opportunity for cheap flights, well today they appeared again and I booked quickly!  I then went on Scottish Parks and registered for a wee 5k.  I hope my pals all come do this with me.  I dont do too many 5ks lately.  My goal is to finally conquer the 21 minute mark, I am 1 second away!  1 second sounds ridiculous but it is huge!  So, I will work on some speed training so I can impress my friends and family.  They have not seen me run yet.  I cant wait!  I am sure I will also have time to run up Dumyat, our local "hill", then roll all the way down to my pal Morags house for wine/coffee/tea!  The problem I have in Scotland is it is very hard to convince everyone/anyone to do anything like this with me.  I can make an American do whatever I want, lol.  Fingers crossed, maybe I have given them enough notice!

So, heading to work shortly.  I am trying to figure out how to fit in Swimming into my routine.  It is not that it hurts, it the drying hair thing, just makes me not want to bother.  Anyone sympathize, ok men shut up!  Once I find a method to shorten the whole swim prep/finish time I will pass on my skills.

Today, the plan is teaching Spin, Core Training, Sprints.  I will let you know how it goes.

Remember, nothing is too small when you are exercising, you can kick your own arse for 20 minutes, dont worry about working out for hours, start small......

Day 1

So Tri season has ended.  I feel quite lost although I was certainly ready to have some long sleeps in Sundays!  I have yet to have one as I have become quite used to getting up!  I feel scared that I will lose my conditioning, we worked so hard this year, I am sure all my club feels the same way.  I started to get up early so I can catch a quick run in as I know work will not allow me anytime, far too much to do.  I teach around 12 classes per week but most of them have nothing to do with improving my training.  My next plan is a 10k on 24th October, 5k 30th October, Ghost of Seattle 1/2 (but I think that could be the same day as 5k) and 1/2 marathon in Las Vegas (did it last year and packed my bikini, it was 30 degrees no joke!)

It has taken me a year but finally I love running.  I realized as I did my Triathlons that it was the only activity that felt natural to me.  I am proof that commitment and hard work will pay off.  Now I adore and crave the runs!  I hate days that I cant get out!

Tomorrow I plan on teaching Spin, core training and trying (I may not be able to) to get some sprint training in.  This would be on a track, 400 meters or less with recovery.  I will let you know how it goes.

Just so you know, some days will be boring so I wont waste your time......  hope you enjoy my updates!
